Up and Down Breezes for Saturday Racing

It was a challenging day for sailors and race officials alike today, with a reluctant northerly forcing a late start for the Combined Clubs Inshore fleet and the Farr 40s only completing one race in their One Design Trophy series.

Outlaw (Tom & Alan Quick) won the first and only race of the day before the fading breeze caused the second race to be abandoned.  After a further hour, racing was abandoned for the day.

The Combined Clubs Inshore race started later and was postponed another 90 minutes before a shortened race was underway.  The standout performer in the interclub combined results was Brian Lees’ Contentious, top spot in Division 2 in today’s race.

In the MHYC Inshore Pointscore, Toy Box 2 (Ian Box) claimed the Division 1 win from Kukukerchu (David Ross) and Samarkand (Walter Carpenter).  In Division 2, MRX (Geoff Pearson) was top of the podium ahead of Galan (Mike Gallagher) and Wailea (Neil Padden).  Dania (Peter Charteris) led Division 3 from Freedom (Stephen Smith) and Escape (Dean Dransfield).  Ace (David West) won the J/24 One Design.  In the Adams 10s, Contentious (Brian Lees) was first home ahead of Another Dilemma (Jim Vaughan) and Rock Solid (Mitchell Miller).  Contentious also claimed the PHS prize.

The Farr 40 One Design Trophy continues tomorrow and next week and the Adams 10s are in Lake Macquarie for their National Championships – good luck to the MHYC crews!  The MC38 are racing with the club next weekend for their Act 1 of the 2021 season and there is another race for the PHS Inshore Series.

Thanks Marg Fraser-Martin for today’s photos from the Combined Clubs course…..
