Thinking about becoming a member of MHYC? Well I can tell you it’s a very rewarding experience. Personally, it is right here on Middle Harbour that I first learned to sail as a junior, and I am very proud to now serve MHYC in the capacity of Commodore. Known as “the friendly club”, I am proud of MHYC, and its members for many reasons.
MHYC not only has a very active junior and cruising divisions, we also continue to run the largest number of club races for keel boats anywhere on Sydney Harbour, and we are renowned for our professional (and volunteer) race management team who always run quality and fair racing regardless of the conditions.
Members from MHYC have performed with distinction both on home waters and away. We have many members that have competed at an elite level, whether it be World Championships, Olympics and even the America’s Cup. Most recently, we burst with pride when our World Champions Malcolm Page and Nathan Wilmot (who also learned to sail, and continue to sail at MHYC) achieved the pinnacle of success, with Olympic Gold in the Mens 470 at the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
Our Junior Sailing fleets are forever increasing at the Club and the purchase of 15 new optimist dinghies ensures that we provide quality sail training to our youngsters, in up to date equipment. If your into cruising under sail, I encourage you to join our very active cruising division. Its perfect for those who enjoy sailing for more social, rather than competitive endeavours.
On land we continue to develop our facilities for members to enjoy. Our recent (and ongoing) Build a Better Club campaign has been a tremendous success, allowing the Club to commence a comprehensive upgrade of facilities, with the Sand Bar, Quarterdeck Bar, Commodores Room, and downstairs change rooms all recently receiving a refreshing facelift. Work will continue on a long list of projects and we encourage you to take advantage of the facilities we provide to our members.
We are one very proud sailing club, and these are but a few reasons as to why you should join MHYC. So if your into any form of sailing, or just want to entertain family or friends in our relaxed beachside atmosphere, I encourage you to download the membership application form today, and become part of MHYC and see for yourself what we have to offer.
Warm Regards
Martin Hill Commodore |
