Youth Sailing Squad Programs

MHYC Youth Sailing Squads is for our most advanced level sailors and are coached by highly qualified coaches using professionally managed coaching programs. Participants will work towards a structured program of racing and regattas with continual guidance from a dedicated coach. MHYC Youth Sailing prides itself on being able to provide high quality coaching in a fun enviroment that can take sailors to the next level. MHYC Youth Sailing provides the folowing: 

Optimist Green

Members of this squad have usually come through the complete tackers program and aren't either ready for racing or want to race. Members have a mix racing and adventure sailing all around the harbour on Sundays during Summer. During Winter, they have an option of continuing to keep sailing or have a break. However they still sail on Sundays. Members of this squad also have the option of attending regattas such as NSW Youth Championships, QLD Youth Week, Optimist Nationals and Australian Youth Championships in the green fleet for beginners. If they show a love and want to race competitively and improve their skill they can be moved up to race squad mid term.

Optimist Open Racing Squad

Members of this squad have usually come through the complete tackers and development squad programs and are some of our best junior sailors. Members race on Sunday afternoon and train on Wednesday during Summer. During Winter, they race and train on Sundays. Members of this squad also attend regattas such as NSW Youth Championships, QLD Youth Week, Optimist Nationals and Australian Youth Championships.
