YACHT SALES AUSTRALIA WEDNESDAY SERIES

It was a rainy start to Series 3 of the  Wednesday Yacht Sales Australia Non-Spinnaker Race with race 1 kicking off this week with 20 boats..  Advanced Philosophy ( Peter Sorensen) was 1st home in  division 1 ahead of Exile ( Rob Reynolds) in 2nd and  Toy Box 2 ( Ian Box ) in 3rd place.  Let Loose ( Paul Saunders )  took the honours in Division 2 ahead of Wailea  ( Neil Padden ) and  Innamincka ( John Crawford ) in 3rd.

THURSDAY TWILIGHT SERIES

Due to the strong winds and large number of storm cells  twilight racing was abandoned this week.

 

SATURDAY SERIES

Saturdays racing saw MHYC running the SOPS race for the last race of the MHYC Ocean Pointscore as well as the Short Series and Adams 10 Summer Pointscore in changeable weather conditions.
Many thanks to RO Steve Tucker and his dedicated team backing up from a very busy weekend the previous week with the Sydney Harbour Regatta.  
For the Ocean Series in division 1 Nine Dragons ( Bob Cox) came in 1st place in the  IRC . Second place in the IRC was Just a Dash ( Philip Dash ) and Toy Box 2  ( Ian Box) in 3rd. For the PHS result Just a Dash 9Philip Dash)came in first place.

In Division 2 it was Stormaway ( Jack Stening ) all the way winning both PHS and IRC, also winning the series in IRC. In the overall series for the Ocean Point  in Division 1 Nine Dragons ( Bob Cox) came in 1st place in the  IRC as well as PHS result. 2nd in the IRC was Toy Box 2  ( Ian Box) and Just a Dash ( Philip Dash ) in 3rd.

In Division 2 for the Series Wailea (Neil Padden) won the PHS series and 3rd in the IRC, with Stormaway also getting 2nd place in the PHS.

For the Short  Series in Division 1 Galan ( Mike Gallagher)came in 1st place ahead of Plan B ( Brett & Ken Churcher ) in 2nd. In Division 2, Vortex ( Chris & Grahame Lee) took out 1st place in both the PHS and One Design result. Water Bourne Again (  Marc and Oloff Tromp) came 2nd  place and Innamincka 3rd in PHS.

All eight Adams 10’s were on the track with PowderHulk (Patrick Delany) winning 1st place in the One design result ahead of Sirius s ( Garth Riley ) and Kick n chase  in 3rd.  Garth Riley’s Sirius won the PHS result.

In the Saturday Social Series  Ellipse II 9 James Pattinson)was the clear winner ahead of Caviar and Escape.

VALE JOHN BARRY MCLEAN

With deep regret, we wish to inform the passing of John Barry Mclean, long term member and competitive sailor, skipper of Aquila, Aquila 2 and joint skipper of MEM who was a member at MHYC for 50 years. John passed quietly and at peace on Saturday morning, 9th March, 2019, having led a wonderful life since 15th March, 1930. He is now with his beloved wife Gillian Leah Mclean.
John and Gillian in fact met on the MHYC site when it  was previously accommodating swimming baths. Their relationship would continue for more than 72 years.
His children Julianne, Sally, Andrew and Ross will miss him, as will his 10 grandchildren and 1 Great grandchild, however  taking comfort he is with his soul mate now.

There will be a service held for John on Monday 18th March.

Our deepest condolences are with his family during this sad time. 

 

 

KAYIMAI BREAST CANCER FUNDRAISER

The 2018/2019 season of MHYC's Twilight Series see's Rob Aldis' boat, Kayimai, with an all female crew. This inspiring group of women have decided to take up the challenge of raising $10,000 before the last twilight of the season to donate to the McGrath Foundation, while raising awareness and interest in women in sailing. 

Support the cause;
Keep Cups are being sold at the Sandbar Cafe - filled with a complimentary coffee on purchase, all proceeds go towards the McGrath Foundation.
Protest flags are being sold at the MHYC Office - all proceeds go towards the McGrath Foundation.

Sandbar Cafe - Open 7 days a week

The Sandbar Cafe is open 7 days a week from 8am. Come down to the Club & enjoy our coffee and freshly made gourmet rolls, fresh muffins, slices or try one of Brett's homemade icecreams. Don't forget we have takeaway beverages for sale - cases of beer, bottles of wine, and bags of ice.
