Barefoot Ball Success

A blast was had by all who attended the Barefoot Ball on Saturday night. Dragon absolutely brought the house down with all of their classic hits and there was not a dry foot in sight. We look forward to doing it all again with you next year.

'She Sail's' Regatta Hosted by the Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club

The second ‘She Sails Regatta’ hosted by Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club (NCYC) will be held on Saturday 17 March 2018, utilising the club’s Force 24 sailing fleet.

NCYC CEO Paul O’Rourke says, ‘The aim of the day is to progress the skills of our women sailors in a fun and safe environment, supported by experienced skippers on each boat’.

‘The emphasis is on learning and not so much winning, therefore, prizes will be presented for the most improved and best team player etcetera as opposed to first, second or third placing.’

‘Last year, we had women of all ages with varying skill levels and experience compete and for some, having just completed their courses through our sailing academy, it was their first racing experience.’

‘It was great to see the smiles on their faces when they returned to the marina, having accomplished a task, like helming on a start line, for the first time.’

Crews are allocated by the academy to ensure skill level and experience are evenly dispersed across the fleet. A morning practice is scheduled for Saturday 10 March 2018 so crews can get to know one another and practice their teamwork.

The regatta day will see the crews race a number of windward/leeward 1-3 lap short courses in the Newcastle Basin.
