MHYC E News 2nd August, 2017

Welcome to MIDDLE HARBOUR YACHT CLUB's E-Newsletter

If you haven't renewed your membership by now (ie before the 31st July), you have missed out on going in the draw to win the 3 night holiday on Hamilton Island but ..... if you renew your membership between now and the 31st August, you will still can win a second chance prize of a case of beer and 2 bottles of wine!

Winners for both draws will be announced at the Club's Opening Day and Commodore's "Front Up" Cup presentation on Saturday 2nd September 2017.

Now for the real exciting news this week!!  MHYC has a new tender boat!  Still yet to be named, but if you come down to the Club she is sitting on a trailer on the hardstand as we put the finishing touches to our new little beauty!  When we say "new", she is actually an old vessel which has been through a total makeover -- couple of botox injections to smooth out a few wrinkles, a nip

and tuck to improve the topside and add a couple of beauty spots (ie samson post), not to mention an almost-new Yanmar diesel engine.

The work so far has been done and paid for by one of our members on the understanding that once completed, the Club would purchase the vessel.  The Marina Committee now needs to raise $40,000 to pay for it.

This new tender, a Kingston 580,  will replace the oldest of our three aluminium tenders, which have been repaired with patches on patches, and outboards which wear out too often.  The Club has long needed a "chugger" which can effortlessly carry crew to boats at a low cost and, in an emergency, will be able to tow boats.

Take the time to have a look at her on the hardstand - everyone who has seen it so far is very excited!  This will be our Club tender for the next 30 years - so we need donations to help pay for this essential long term Club asset.  So far, we have already raised $25,000 - if you would like to add your support and offer a donation, please send an email to General Manager, Karen Baldwin to organise your preferred method of payment.  Please put in the subject line "TENDER".

Thank you - "Captain Jack" Stening, Chairman of Marina Committee

Soon, several of our boats and sailors will be heading north to participate in Airlie & Hamilton Island Race Weeks and we wish them all success in their respective divisions.

MHYC sponsor Abell Point take out Marina of the Year award

In a gala award ceremony hosted last night at the Marine17 conference at Sydney’s newly revamped exhibition centre, Abell Point Marina took out the coveted Marina of the Year award. This nationally accredited awards program judged by the Marina Industries Association recognizes excellence in the marina industry.

Luke McCaul, Abell Point’s General Manager agrees the award belongs to the hard work of the dedicated marina team “I’m incredibly proud of our entire team. They drive the business every day, with a customer focus and a shared vision of excellence. Paul Darrouzet (owner) bought the marina four years ago with a vision to make Abell Point a first-class destination marina. This award recognizes the realization of that vision.”

MHYC congratulates Paul, Luke and the team at APM on this outstanding achievement.

MHYC Opening Day - Come join us and celebrate the start of the 2017-18 Sailing Season!

Make sure you save the date - Saturday 2nd September!  We always have a fun theme that you need to use to decorate your boat or dress up your crew.  This year we are going with "Favourite Music or Bands"!  Think along the lines of the Beach Boys (a nice easy one with everyone in Hawaiian shirts) or Bay City Rollers and everyone in kilts - just to give you a couple of ideas.  We have just confirmed a new sponsorship with radio station smoothfm so a music theme is very appropriate.  Great prizes to be won!

Starting off with a champagne brunch, followed by a colourful and exciting boat parade, the Commodore's "Front Up" Cup race, and then back to the Clubhouse for entertainment, volunteer and prize presentations!
