Welcome to Middle Harbour Yacht Club's E-Newsletter

MHYC's Thursday Twilight series has now begun with a fantastic turnout last week with 50 boats racing!  The Club was buzzing with a full house in the Bistro upstairs and a sold out barbeque downstairs - thank you for all for your support in making it a great night - tomorrow's twilight should be just as fun with forecasts of a strong southerly!

Please note that MHYC staff will be on hand to sign non members into the Club and assisting visitors wishing to crew onto boats tomorrow night so the Breezeway will be very busy.  To streamline this process could all Members please assist by making sure you have your current membership card on view as you enter the Club.  If your membership has expired, please go directly to reception to either collect your new card or renew your membership.

Note to Skippers - are any of your crew not members yet? Now is the time to join them up during the month of October as we will be waiving the joining fee as well as adding $25 credit to the new member's membership card as well as $25 credit to the Proposer's membership card - see reception for membership forms.


Yacht Sales Australia Wednesday Series 1 - Race 7 - 12th October, 2016

Race 7 of Series 1 for the 2016-17 season, will be held today Wednesday 12th October, 2016.  Please be aware that the handicaps are count up starting from 1330 hours

Thursday Twilight Series -  Race 2, 13th October, 2016

The Thursday Twilight series has begun and Race 2 tomorrow night, 13th October, 2016, with a count up handicap start from 6pm.  Post racing presentation and Bistro open for a meal or alternatively, enjoy barbeque food from The BBQ Cooking School, downstairs on the beach - get the crew together, support the Club and celebrate after the race! To book a table at the Bistro, call 9969 1244 and book in your Boat name!

Twilight Membership Special - Join as a Full/Sailing Member with MHYC for the Twilights!

As a special membership deal for October, MHYC is waiving the joining fee of $75 and offering a $25 credit on your membership card and your proposer, when you join in the month of October as a Full/Sailing member for the Twilight series (valid for new members only).  Sailing membership fee is $326 (expires 31st Aug 2017) - that's just $14 per race and you get to shout the whole crew a drink or keep it for yourself!

Melges 20 - Available this Saturday 15th October, 2016

The Melges 20s are available again this Saturday for MHYC sailing members to go for a sail. We’ll take part in the Inshore Racing which starts at 1pm. If you’re keen, you’ll need to be at the dock by 11.30am and we’ll be back by 4 or 4.30pm. Please advise Nicky Bethwaite on nickyb@mhyc.com.au by Thursday midday if you’d like to participate.

Youth Sailing - Term 4 Online Bookings Open - begins Sunday 16th October

Online bookings for Term 4 are now open online.  Term 4 begins this Sunday 16th October!  Book the kids in for the Summer - a great time to have fun and learn to sail on the waters of Middle Harbour!

Sandbar Cafe - open 7 days a week 

The Sandbar Cafe is open 7 days a week from 8am. Come down to the Club & enjoy our coffee and freshly made gourmet rolls - try our new Chicken Schnitzel roll!  Yoghurt with fresh fruit  available - a healthy start to the day.  New to the Sandbar - gluten free and paleo brownies and nut slices, organic juices and coconut water!

The Harbourview Bar & Bistro currently has a limited menu available - click here for the current menu.  Harbourview Bar & Bistro is open Wednesday to Sunday for lunch and Friday and Saturday for dinner.

Ladies Lunch - Guest Speaker: Julian Leatherdale
Thursday 20th October, 2016, at 12 noon

The final Ladies Luncheon for 2016 will be held on Thursay 20th October, 2016, at 12 noon. MHYC's guest speaker is author, Julian Leatherdale, who was a researcher/photo editor for the Time-Life Australians At War series and later co-writer/researcher on ABC-Film Australia TV history documentaries. His novel Palace of Tears is a captivating novel of love, history, betrayals and family secrets.
$60 MHYC Member, $65 Non Members - includes 2 course lunch, wine, tea/coffee.
The Prize of a 3 night luxury cruise on board the Reef Endeavour departing Denarau Island cruising towards the Mamanuca Islands of Castaway & Mana and then on to the South Yasawa group, plus an overnight stay at the 4 star Radisson Blu Resort on Denarau Island, will be drawn at the lunch. CYCA Marine Safety Day

At 10 am. on October 30 the CYCA at Rushcutters Bay will be hosting a day on May Day and Pan Pan in order to inform all who go to sea in small ships, yachts etc. the correct way to call for assistance and what to expect should an emergency occur.
In order to ensure the correct information is available ALL of the relevant organisations involved that actually organise and provide assistance and rescue at sea have agreed to be present and describe their role and what assistance can be provided if a vessel is in serious trouble or is in danger of sinking or on which a crew member has had a serious accident or life threatening Medical problem.  The Safety day is free and all are welcome to attend all that is asked is that they signal their intention of attending on www.trybooking.com/NDHD.
